To better serve clients with their ESG proposition development and articulation, White Marble conducted in-depth research on the factors that contribute to perceived success in ESG. Through the research, we sought to gain a nuanced understanding of what leads to successful sustainable investing messaging and marketing, as well as who the leaders and laggards in this space are.


We worked with a third-party to survey a cross-section of investors and stakeholders in the UK investment landscape, interviewing 100 independent financial advisers, wealth managers, discretionary fund managers, pension trustees, independent trustees, consultants, and a small number of financial journalists and commentators.


We collected both quantitative data and qualitative observations, analysed the insights and compiled them into an in-depth report.

The outcome

Through the research, we identified five key take-aways for asset managers to succeed with ESG and sustainability messaging. We presented the findings at an ESG breakfast roundtable with senior marketers in investment management. We have used the research to inform subsequent relevant conversations and client work, helping us provide more strategic and targeted recommendations for success.
