Digital Marketing Intern - Ben Yelland
Ben Yelland

Meet Ben

Ben joined White Marble back in September as a Digital Marketing Intern and has been working on a variety of projects across all areas of the business: Consultancy, Learning & Metrologis. He has worked with a range of clients within the investment management industry alongside developing his digital marketing skills.

Ben recently graduated from Coventry University studying Advertising and Marketing. He was particularly drawn to the idea of communications psychology and understanding the reasons behind consumer behaviour and how it affects decision making. Since then, Ben has joined White Marble to put his knowledge into practice and share his in-depth knowledge of consumer behaviour.

What is a fun fact about you?

I have never broken a bone in my body. This is surprising because I have always been a very adventurous child, I would climb to the top of every tree I came across, attempt dangerous tricks on my BMX at skateparks, play football everyday and go on yearly skiing holidays. Countless times I had fallen off something, believed a bone was broken, gone to the hospital and nothings broken!

What was your first job?

General Assistant as Sainsburys PLC – besides work experience here and there, my first full time job was at my local Sainsburys, where I worked during my gap year. This helped me save money to support myself through university and gave me a taste of what full time employment was like!

What is the best piece of career advice you have ever received?

Enjoy what you do! – Don’t wake up everyday regretting life choices and not enjoying what you do.

How did you end up here?

Recently I finished my degree at Coventry University studying advertising and marketing and I was on the job hunt. White Marble were nice enough to give me a fantastic internship opportunity!

What excites you most about your job?

The range of projects I am involved in. I have had the opportunity to work across a variety of teams and live clients.

If you weren’t working at White Marble and money wasn’t an object what would you be doing?

Travelling – I really want to see U.S.A, Central America, South America and South East Asia. I am also drawn to the idea of doing philanthropic work such as helping to build a school in areas of extreme poverty.

What do you think will be the biggest influencing ‘thing’ in marketing in the next 10 years?

Social Responsibility – With consumers becoming more and more engaged with rising environmental issues and businesses globally becoming more socially responsible, I believe that companies nowadays can reap huge benefits of demonstrating their social responsibility.

Data – Data = Knowledge, it provides indisputable evidence enabling people to make better informed decisions within their business. Marketing should be data driven.

What is the best book you have read recently?

A book called Relentless by an author called Simon Kernick, an exciting non-stop crime thriller that keeps the reader on the edge of his seat the entire novel.

What is the coolest place you have ever been/ What is your favourite holiday destination?

I have been to a lot of beautiful places so it’s difficult to narrow it down to just one, however, I would say my favourite holiday destinations have to be Hong Kong and Sharm El Sheikh.

Hong Kong – I went here with my university just before I graduated, it was an amazing week where I did a lot of sight seeing and really immersed myself within the culture – breath taking views, friendly people and exotic food – beautiful.

Sharm El Sheikh – This is where I first learnt to Scuba Dive – the red sea is beautiful, warm and amazing to scuba dive in and see all the different sea animals you wouldn’t usually get to see on a typical holiday.

What is your favourite dessert?

I consider myself more of a savoury person, however, if I had to say a favourite dessert, it would be tiramisu. I never enjoyed it growing up and used to hate it when my parents would make me try some, but in the last couple of years it’s really grown on me and now I can barely go without it!
