Meet Lisa

Lisa joined White Marble Marketing in July as a marketing executive to help deliver on a variety of consultancy-based projects. Bringing a new perspective to our work, thanks to her extensive experience in the events industry, Lisa has covered website deliveries, digital campaigns, and helped enhance White Marble’s internal marketing efforts.

What is a fun fact about you?

I am funnier in Dutch. Even though English and Dutch humour are quite similar, I have to say that joining in on English ‘banter’ is still a work in progress. Either the moment has passed, or I made exactly the right comment without knowing. So please tell me when I am being funny.

What was your first job?

When I was 14, I had a summer job in our local flower shop with my best friend in the Netherlands. During shop opening and closing we carried heavy buckets with flowers, pots and plants into the shop for display. For the remainder of the day we put iron wires into Gerberas to keep them upright – we sometimes had to do hundreds a day. No need for an expensive gym membership then as I was growing muscles I did not even know I had. In terms of my love for flowers, I have never bought Gerberas since.

What is the best piece of career advice you have ever received?

Less is more.

How did you end up here?

I heard great things about White Marble via a personal relation that met our treasured colleague Tom Meadley and mentioned I was looking for a marketing role in financial services. Tom very kindly passed on my details and shortly after I received a lovely message from Twink on LinkedIn. Excited to have an introductory conversation, I met part of the team in the office and virtually during lockdown. All these conversations made me realise even more that this was a team I wanted to be a part of. I count myself lucky that this opportunity came up and am delighted to have started.

What excites you most about your job?

Having so much diversity within White Marble in terms of people and projects. There are always new things coming up and it is the excitement of not knowing what is coming next. Working at White Marble gives you the opportunity to work with teams at the most professional organisations in the industry whilst covering different areas of marketing. Finally, working with colleagues that have so much knowledge in their respective area of marketing expertise is really enlightening.

If you weren’t working at White Marble and money wasn’t an object what would you be doing?

I would open a lunch bar in Bali with delicious sandwiches and salads. I absolutely love food and love to make good-looking lunches. Please do visit me if this happens! Mention ‘White Marble 20’ and I will give you a discount too.

What do you think will be the biggest influencing ‘thing’ in marketing in the next 10 years?

I think people and personal stories are going to be more central. Due to the ongoing pandemic, business as we know shifted even more from face to face to a virtual environment. I do believe that the two will become intertwined with ever evolving digital technology. I see a lot of brands introducing the people behind their products and services. Technology provides the tools to make our lives a lot easier, but we love a good story and connecting with people.

What is the best book you have read recently?

I recently read ‘Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup’ and it was mind blowing. However, I still find ‘I am Pilgrim’ from Terry Hayes my all-time favourite. I am looking forward to reading his next book which is due to come out in a few months.

What is the coolest place you have ever been/ What is your favourite holiday destination?

As much as I love Spain and Asia for holidays, I would really encourage you to visit Suriname in South America. My dad was born in Suriname and last year I visited the country for the first time. With 94% of the country being forest, Suriname has breath-taking jungle views, untouched nature, (slightly scary) animals in the wild, a rich history plus incredible food. For me, it was really special to meet family and see the area where my father grew up.

What is your favourite dessert?

I am the type of person that prefers a starter over a dessert. However, if there is anything with dark chocolate, you will need to help me decide.
