What is a fun fact about you?
When I first moved to London 17 years ago, my spoken English was quite basic. Hence, I decided to create my own English dictionary by writing down all the words, expressions, sayings that I would randomly hear from people at work, at the supermarket, on the streets. I diligently compiled that document for three years and I would use those English sayings in my conversations, showing off my mastery of the English language. Unfortunately, it was only after many years that I realised that I got most of those expressions completely wrong and most of them didn’t make any sense (or had completely different meaning from what I had thought!)
What was your first job?
My first full time job was as marketing manager in a real estate franchise. It was a great and fun experience as I got to travel all over Italy, meet lots of interesting people and even flew over the Nevada desert on a hot-air balloon. That was a world miles away from the investment management industry, however my passion for marketing was already there.
What is the best piece of career advice you have ever received?
Treat everyone with respect and fairness.
How did you end up here?
After almost 20 years in the corporate world, I was curious to experience what life was like on the other side of the fence. I have known Twink Field for many years and I have always enjoyed working and bouncing ideas with her. So, when she asked me to start a collaboration with White Marble I didn’t think twice.
What excites you most about your job?
The opportunity to meet and work closely with so many different, smart
and talented professionals.
If you weren’t working at White Marble and money wasn’t an object
what would you be doing?
I would probably spend my time somewhere along the Mediterranean coast, digging in search of archaeological relics from ancient civilisations, while listening to podcasts. I have a life-long passion for classic archaeology and history and I am obsessed with podcasts!
What do you think will be the biggest influencing ‘thing’ in
marketing in the next 10 years?
Over the next few years I think the role of marketers will shift more and more from one focused on brand awareness to one where they will be more accountable for costumer acquisition and revenue generation. Marketers will be expected to know their customers inside-out and create a personalised customer’s journey across a new array of channels (chats, blogs, social media, etc). Data analytics and marketing automation will be essential in gathering the necessary insights into customers’ preferences in order to create targeted and effective campaigns.
What is the best book you have read recently?
I have recently finished reading Tara Westover’s brilliant memoir, Educated, where she recounts growing up in Idaho, preparing for the End of Days, in a Mormon survivalist family home, and her struggle for knowledge and self-invention.
What is the coolest place you have ever been/ What is your favourite
holiday destination?
I am a bit biased here. I love everything Italian, people, food, fashion, culture. So, my favourite holiday destination is Italy, and within Italy, Venice holds a very special place in my heart. I have been to Venice countless times and every time its unique atmosphere amazes me.
What is your favourite dessert?
Italian gelato, what else?
